Step on the flower (2021)
Away from the town, the road takes a turn and leads to a hill. There is an ancient palace whose gates are closed for visitors. A few steps ahead is the park.
Gamboo limps around the grass and tends to the garden. He makes sure the hedges are trimmed and collects the fallen flowers to dry them in the sun. A decade ago, he lost his right leg in an accident. He is 45.
He tells me, “All kinds of people come here”
A wandering monk, newly wed couples, Tiktok dancers and weary birds. A jet plane cuts the sky open, warm stones nestle in the shade of ferns, children’s laughter echoes with a lingering feeling- Life is lived momentarily.
